What have you been working on?

If you’ve been following along on our homesteading journey, you know we always have a few projects in motion — between caring for the chickens, ducks, honeybees, and garden, there’s never a dull moment! But lately, there’s been something new brewing here at J & J Homestead — something I’ve been quietly working on behind the scenes and can finally share with you.

We’re starting a podcast!

It’s called Talking With Chickens, and it’s launching this November on Spotify.

Why a Podcast?

For the longest time, I’ve wanted to create a space where we could have honest, down-to-earth conversations about the realities of homesteading — the good, the messy, and everything in between. “Talking With Chickens” will be just that: a weekly podcast where I share stories from our daily life on the homestead, lessons we’ve learned, and reflections on balancing it all in this crazy world.

It’s not just about chickens (though they’ll definitely make their fair share of appearances). It’s about finding joy in the simple things, learning from our challenges, and connecting with others who are walking similar paths — whether they have acres of land or a few raised beds in their backyard.

What I’ve Been Working On

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been diving deep into all things podcasting:

– Taking online courses to learn about recording, editing, and publishing.

– Researching formats and listening to other shows to figure out what resonates most.

– Creating our theme song, which captures that warm, welcoming “sit down and chat awhile” feeling that we want listeners to experience.

– Developing a content plan for the first two months — complete with topics, guest ideas, and draft scripts.

Some of our early episodes will cover:

The beginnings of our homestead and how it’s grown. Lessons from raising chickens (and a few funny stories about rooster mischief). Balancing full-time work, life, and homesteading dreams. Preparing for winter on the farm.

It’s been a labor of love — and I can’t wait to bring it to life.

Why I’m So Excited

Homesteading has always been about more than just growing food or caring for animals. It’s about community and connection — learning, sharing, and supporting one another as we build the lives we dream of.

“Talking With Chickens” will be a space where I can pull back the curtain on our homestead, chat about the ups and downs, and hopefully make you laugh along the way. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and seeing it come together piece by piece has been such a rewarding experience.

So stay tuned — November is just around the corner, and I can’t wait to welcome you to the coop for our first episode.
