Where would you go on a shopping spree?
If someone walked up to me tomorrow and said, “You can go on a shopping spree anywhere you want,” most people might choose a fancy department store, a high-end mall, or maybe a big electronics retailer.
Not me.
Without hesitation, I would say Tractor Supply Company.
For most homesteaders, this answer probably makes perfect sense. For everyone else, it may sound a little strange. But when you live the homesteading lifestyle, Tractor Supply isn’t just a store—it’s practically a second home.
And if I’m being honest, TSC already gets my business on a weekly basis… often multiple times a week.
Tractor Supply: The Homesteader’s Version of a Candy Store
Walking into Tractor Supply Company is a bit like walking into a candy store—except instead of chocolate bars and gummy bears, you’re surrounded by chicken feed, livestock supplies, gardening tools, and enough homesteading equipment to keep you happily wandering the aisles for hours.
The first stop is always the necessities.
Chicken feed? Into the cart.
Fresh bedding? Absolutely.
Maybe a new feeder or waterer because somehow the chickens managed to destroy the last one? That goes in too.
Before you know it, the cart is halfway full and you’ve technically only bought the things you came for.
But the real danger comes next.
Chick Days: The Ultimate Test of Self-Control
If you’ve ever walked into Tractor Supply during Chick Days, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

This time of year, the store is filled with tiny peeping boxes of fluff that test the self-control of even the most disciplined homesteader. You walk in planning to buy a bag of feed and suddenly you’re standing there staring at baby chicks like they’re the cutest creatures on earth.
This weekend was especially dangerous.
They had chicks, ducklings, and guinea fowl in the store.
It took every ounce of willpower I had not to walk out with a box of new birds.
“Do we really need more chickens?” I asked myself.
My brain said no.
My heart—and the tiny peeping noises—said yes.
Homesteaders everywhere know this internal battle all too well.
Tractor Supply Is Also a Gardener’s Paradise
Of course, Tractor Supply isn’t just for livestock. It also happens to be one of my favorite places for gardening supplies.
Whether I’m looking for seeds, starter plants, or the soil mix needed to get the next round of seedlings going, Tractor Supply usually has exactly what I need.
In the spring, their garden section becomes incredibly tempting.
You walk in for one bag of soil and suddenly start thinking things like:
“Maybe I should plant more herbs this year.”
“Do I have enough tomato varieties?”
“Would a few more flower seeds really hurt?”
Next thing you know, you’re loading bags of soil, packets of seeds, and maybe a few new tools into the cart while mentally redesigning your entire garden layout.
It happens to the best of us.
The Homesteader’s Weekly Routine
At this point, visiting Tractor Supply has become part of the weekly rhythm of life on the homestead.
Need feed? Tractor Supply.
Need garden supplies? Tractor Supply.
Need fencing, tools, gloves, or something you suddenly realized you absolutely cannot live without? Tractor Supply again.
Sometimes I joke that the employees probably recognize me at this point. When you’re raising chickens, tending a garden, and constantly improving the homestead, there is always something that needs to be picked up.
And honestly, I don’t mind one bit.
The Veteran’s Discount Makes It Even Better
Another reason Tractor Supply continues to earn my loyalty is their veteran’s discount.
As someone connected to the military community, that small gesture means a great deal. It’s one of those things that influences where I choose to spend my money.
When companies take the time to recognize veterans and military families, it matters.
So when I’m deciding where to buy supplies for the homestead, that recognition always has an influence.
The Perfect Homesteader Shopping Spree
So if someone ever offers me a shopping spree and asks where I’d like to go, my answer will be simple.
Tractor Supply Company.
Give me a cart, point me toward the chicken feed, let me wander through the gardening aisle, and maybe—just maybe—give me a few minutes near the chick brooders.
Just don’t be surprised if I come home with a few extra birds.
After all, that’s the risk you take when you send a homesteader on a shopping spree at Tractor Supply.
