If you stopped by the farmstand this past weekend and noticed fewer eggs than usual, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you—truly—for your patience, understanding, and continued support of our little homestead.

A Small Pause for a Big Purpose

Behind the scenes, something exciting is happening.

This spring, we made the decision to begin incubating this year’s eggs, with the hope of welcoming a brand-new generation of fluffy, feathered friends to J & J Homestead. While that does mean fewer eggs available at the stand right now, it’s all part of a bigger picture—one that helps us grow, sustain, and continue providing for our community.

And if you’ve ever held a warm egg fresh from the coop, you know… sometimes the best things are worth the wait.

Why We’re Incubating Eggs This Season

As a working homestead, we’re always thinking a few steps ahead. Incubating eggs allows us to:

  • Grow our flock naturally
  • Maintain strong, healthy genetics within our birds
  • Support long-term egg production for the farmstand
  • Continue sharing the joy of homesteading with our community

It’s a bit like planting seeds in the garden—you may not see the harvest right away, but something beautiful is already in motion.

A Peek Into the Process

Right now, those eggs are tucked safely into the incubator, carefully monitored for temperature, humidity, and the quiet magic happening inside. In just a few short weeks, we’re hoping to hear the tiniest peeps and see the first cracks in the shells.

There’s nothing quite like it.

Each hatch is a reminder of why we do this—the early mornings, the long days, and the constant learning that comes with homesteading. It’s all part of building something meaningful, one step at a time.

What This Means for the Farmstand

For now, egg availability may continue to be a little limited on weekends. We know that can be disappointing (especially if eggs are a regular part of your routine), and we don’t take that lightly.

But here’s the good news:

  • Our hens are still laying—just at a reduced supply for the stand
  • We expect availability to improve as the season progresses
  • And before long, those incubated eggs will become part of the future flock

In other words, this is a short-term slowdown for a long-term gain.

From Our Homestead to Your Home

One of the things we cherish most is the community that has grown around our farmstand. Whether you’re stopping by for eggs, baked goods, or simply to say hello, you are part of this journey with us.

Your patience this weekend didn’t go unnoticed—it meant everything.

So from our family (and all of our chickens and turkeys) to yours:

Thank you for supporting local. Thank you for believing in small farms. And thank you for growing with us.

We can’t wait to introduce you to the newest members of the flock very soon.
