What food would you say is your specialty?
Every homestead has its specialties—the foods that seem to define its seasons, its rhythm, and its story. For us at J & J Homestead, that flavor comes from a mix of the simple and the extraordinary: fresh eggs, tender farm-raised chicken, vine-ripened tomatoes, and golden honey with a floral sweetness that can only come from nature’s design.
Eggs: The Cornerstone of the Homestead
Our farm-fresh eggs have always been the cornerstone of J & J Homestead. They represent the daily reward of caring for our flock—clean water, quality feed, and space to roam and scratch. Each carton that leaves our homestead carries a little bit of that care and connection to the land.
Egg sales were the very first way our farm began to support itself, and even as we’ve expanded into new ventures, they remain the foundation. There’s just nothing quite like cracking open a fresh egg and seeing that deep golden yolk that only a happy hen can produce.
Farm-Raised Chicken: Wholesome and Homegrown
This year, we took another exciting step forward—raising and selling farm-raised chicken. From the very beginning, we’ve approached this with respect and gratitude for the process. Our chickens are raised with care, sunlight, and plenty of space to move freely. The result is flavorful, nutrient-dense meat that tells the story of where it came from—our land, our labor, and our values.
It’s a small-scale operation, but it’s one that reflects what we believe in: knowing your food, and knowing the hands that raised it.
Tomatoes: Summer’s Lasting Gift
Our tomatoes are a symbol of abundance on the homestead. They fill our garden beds and greenhouse from summer through late October, offering bursts of red, gold, and orange that remind us of warmth even as the days grow cooler.
Each year, we seem to experiment with new varieties—heirlooms, cherries, slicers—and somehow, we always end up with more than we planned. There’s no better taste of the season than a tomato still warm from the sun.
Honey: The Heart of the Harvest
If there’s one thing that truly captures the essence of J & J Homestead, it’s our honey. Every jar is a reflection of the wildflowers, fruit trees, and vegetables that surround our hives. The bees’ hard work results in a honey that has a light floral flavor, unique to our region and season.
It’s our personal favorite—sweet, delicate, and utterly irreplaceable. Each spoonful feels like a celebration of nature’s cooperation: bees, blossoms, and patience.
From Our Hands to Your Table
At J & J Homestead, we take pride in producing food that nourishes not just the body, but the connection to land and season. Whether it’s a dozen fresh eggs, a jar of honey, or a ripe tomato from our garden, every item represents a piece of our homestead story—a story that continues to grow each season.
