Every homesteader has those go-to items they grab without even thinking — the things that just feel like “part of you” when you step outside. For me, that’s my cheerful chicken-print muck boots and my well-worn Chicago Cubs baseball hat. They’re practical, comfortable, full of personality, and 100% a part of my daily routine.You’ll see them in nearly every Instagram post and YouTube video because, honestly, I don’t do homestead chores without them!

With the wet, cold months settling in, I knew it was time to replace my old muck boots. I walked into Tractor Supply expecting to grab something neutral, sturdy, and practical. But the second I saw these boots — covered top to bottom in colorful, happy little chickens — I was SOLD. I didn’t even hesitate.They’re bright, cheerful, and impossible not to smile at, even on the muddiest mornings. Whether I’m watering the ducks, hauling feed, or doing a last-minute coop check, these boots keep my feet warm and dry while looking downright adorable.

Because homesteaders can be sports fans too!
While the boots keep my feet dry, my Chicago Cubs hat keeps the sun out of my eyes, my hair somewhat contained, and my lifelong baseball loyalty on full display. I wear this hat everywhere — morning chores, afternoon projects, supply runs, garden work, you name it. If you watch my Instagram stories or YouTube videos, you already know: the hat is basically glued to my head.
Why a Cubs hat, you ask?
Even though I grew up in Georgia, the TV network WGN was always on in our house, which meant the Chicago Cubs were always on TV. They became my team long before I ever visited Chicago. That loyalty stuck, and now here I am — a homesteader in Virginia, rocking Cubs gear while tending chickens and bees.
Why I never take it off:

Keeps my hair managed
Comfortable and reliable
If you see me outside, there’s about a 99% chance this hat is already on my head!
Homesteading Gear Should Be Practical and Personal
