For Us – Classics sell the best!
There is something special about simple baked goods done well. Over the last few months of running the J & J Homestead farmstand, we have learned that the items that consistently sell out every single weekend are not necessarily the most elaborate recipes. Instead, they are the baked goods that remind people of home, comfort, and childhood memories. The smell of warm cookies, cinnamon apples, and buttery dough drifting through the farmstand has become one of our favorite parts of this journey.
As much as we love experimenting with new recipes, there are three baked goods that customers ask for again and again: our Chocolate Chip Cookies, S’mores Cookies, and Apple Fritter Bread. If we are not fully stocked with them, we definitely hear about it from our regular customers.
The Chocolate Chip Cookie That Started It All
There is a reason the classic chocolate chip cookie never goes out of style. At our farmstand, these cookies disappear faster than almost anything else we bake. Soft, buttery, decadent, and perfectly moist, they are the definition of comfort food.
What makes a truly great chocolate chip cookie is balance. Too much flour and they become dry. Too little and they spread too thin. After many batches and plenty of trial and error in our homestead kitchen, we found the perfect combination that creates thick bakery-style cookies with crisp edges and soft centers.
Customers often tell us that our cookies remind them of the homemade cookies their parents or grandparents used to make. That is honestly one of the best compliments we could receive. In a world full of trendy desserts and complicated recipes, there is still something magical about a warm chocolate chip cookie fresh from the oven.
These cookies have also taught us an important lesson about running a farmstand: simple recipes made with care will always stand out.

Why Our S’mores Cookies Sell Out Every Weekend
The second best seller at the farmstand is our S’mores Cookies. I originally saw versions of these cookies all over Pinterest and immediately knew I wanted to try making them myself. There was just something about combining gooey marshmallows, melted chocolate, and graham cracker flavors into a cookie that sounded irresistible.
Of course, like many recipes, the first attempt was not quite right. Some batches spread too much, while others lacked the rich flavor and texture we were hoping for. After several adjustments and plenty of taste testing, we finally landed on the version that became a farmstand favorite.
Now, every weekend, these cookies sell out incredibly quickly.
The combination of buttery cookie dough, melted chocolate, and toasted marshmallow creates the perfect nostalgic flavor. They taste like summer campfires and backyard evenings with family. Customers are constantly excited when they see them available at the stand.
One of my favorite parts about the S’mores Cookies is how excited people get when they realize we made them fresh that morning. They are fun, comforting, and just a little bit indulgent — exactly what a homestead bakery item should feel like.

Apple Fritter Bread Brings Customers Back Again and Again
If there is one baked good that truly feels like a warm hug from home, it is Apple Fritter Bread.
We sell our Apple Fritter Bread in mini-loaf form, and it has become one of the most requested items at the farmstand. In fact, if we do not have it stocked, our regular customers are quick to let us know. That alone tells us how much people genuinely love it.
Apple Fritter Bread is definitely one of the more time-consuming recipes we make. Between preparing the apples, layering the cinnamon filling, and carefully baking each loaf to perfection, it takes patience. But every single time we pull a batch out of the oven, it feels worth it.
The smell alone fills the kitchen with the scent of cinnamon, apples, butter, and sugar. It smells like fall mornings, holiday baking, and family gatherings all wrapped into one recipe.
For us, that is really what this farmstand journey has become about. Yes, we love baking. Yes, we enjoy learning the science behind recipes and ingredients. But more than anything, we love creating foods that bring people comfort and familiarity.

The Simplicity of Comfort Food
One of the biggest surprises from opening our homestead farmstand has been discovering that customers consistently gravitate toward familiar comfort foods. While creative recipes can be exciting, people often return to the classics that make them feel at home.
Chocolate chip cookies remind people of childhood.
S’mores Cookies bring back memories of summer nights.
Apple Fritter Bread tastes like cozy mornings in the kitchen.
Those connections matter.
As we continue growing J & J Homestead, we are constantly learning more about baking, customer favorites, and what truly makes people excited to stop by the farmstand each weekend. The biggest lesson so far has been simple: good food does not need to be complicated. Sometimes the best recipes are the ones that feel timeless, homemade, and comforting.
And honestly, nothing makes us happier than watching customers come back week after week asking if we still have “their favorite” in stock.
