Which topics would you like to be more informed about?

One of the things I love most about running a homestead is that there’s always something new to learn. No matter how many seasons of gardening or years of caring for chickens and ducks we have under our belt, there’s always a fresh question waiting around the corner. Sometimes it’s as simple as “Why are my tomato leaves curling?” and other times it’s as complicated as “What on earth is wrong with this chicken, and how can I help her?”

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what areas I want to dive deeper into—and I thought it might be fun to ask you the same question:

What topics would you like to be more informed about on your homestead journey?

The more I learn about regenerative farming practices, the more I realize it’s not just a buzzword—it’s a lifestyle and a mindset. Beyond organic gardening, regenerative farming is all about restoring soil health, increasing biodiversity, and creating a system that gives back more than it takes.

Some of the questions I want to explore are:

– How can I measure soil health year over year without expensive lab work?

– What cover crops are the most effective for a backyard-sized homestead?

– How do I balance producing food for my family while also improving the land for the long haul?

Self-Sufficiency on the Homestead

Self-sufficiency is at the heart of why many of us homestead. While we may never be 100% off-grid or completely independent, every step toward producing more of our own food and reducing reliance on outside systems feels empowering.

Some areas I’d like to dive deeper into include:

– Which food preservation methods save the most nutrients? (Freezing vs. dehydrating vs. canning)

– How to balance modern conveniences with traditional skills.

– Which tools are truly worth the investment to make homestead life easier and more efficient.

Homestead Veterinary Options

And then, of course, there are the animals. Chickens, ducks, rabbits, and even bees all come with their own set of mysteries. One day everyone looks healthy, and the next you’re staring at a hen who’s limping, coughing, or looking downright miserable.

Some of the homestead veterinary topics I’d like to be more informed about are:

– How to spot the early signs of respiratory infections in chickens.

– Natural remedies for supportive care, like using herbs or probiotics.

– When to treat at home and when it’s time to call in professional help.

Let’s Learn Together

The beauty of homesteading is that none of us are experts in every area. We’re all learning as we go, sharing what works, and adapting through trial and error. So I’ll ask again: What topics would you like to be more informed about?

Drop a comment below, send me a message, or make your own list. Whether it’s regenerative farming, self-sufficiency, or animal health care, I’d love to keep this conversation going. Because the more we learn together, the stronger and more resilient our homesteads—and our communities—will be.
